We finally got these pictures off Dave’s phone. This is at Bro. Escue’s land that’s about 20 minutes away from our house. The Escue’s are in our ward and we love them – Bro. Escue is so nice and humble and he reminds me of my dad – a hard worker, gets things done, loves his family, devoted to the gospel, good sense of humor etc etc. Anyway we went to his land to get some wood chips. He owns a tree removal business and has piles and piles of woodchips on his land from trees that people didn’t want. All the woodchips are at different stages of decomposition! Anyway….while we were there he let Harry (and Dave) ride on one of his old trucks (that he still uses). It is a serious beast and is a crazy machine. If I remember correctly it’s three trucks that he kind of put together. Talk about a handyman! The story behind this machine is this: One time one of his family members totaled a Toyota Camry, and the towing company said it was going to cost like $800 or more to remove it because it was “un-towable.” Bro. Escue just said – oh, I have a truck that can handle it. They’re like no….it’s really not possible. But he said it was. So, he brought his machine and picked up the whole car, placed it in the truck bed, and off they went. I think that story is hilarious. Harry had SO much fun on the truck – he was in heaven! I think Dave had quite a bit of fun controlling the arm, too :)
A Few More Things from Utah
June 24th, 2009 | posted by meganAfter an amazing takeout dinner from Joy Luck (out on my parent’s patio) we decided to take a walk around the block. Harry was VERY insistent that he hold Piper’s leash! He loved it. Piper didn’t quite know what to think!
On Saturday we took FrontRunner to Salt Lake from the Woods Cross stop – not a long ride, but great for Harry! He was super excited to ride it and look out the windows. We took Trax to Temple Square and walked around there. It was so great to go back to Temple Square – it had been a long time since I had been there during the summer months. It is so beautiful. We had lunch at the new Nauvoo Cafe on the first floor of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building – I had their famous chicken pot pie and boy was it tasty!! We also checked out the downtown construction and it was AWESOME! I just couldn’t believe what a HUGE project it was. So many cranes, trucks….metal – it was incredible. We saw a huge crane lifting up a massive excavator out of the pit. I was really impressed.
We Love Our Garden!
June 23rd, 2009 | posted by meganOur garden is doing great this year!! Hooray! I am so glad we took the time to lay down the landscape material, because it has helped immensely with the weeds….seriously. I highly recommend it to anyone! David has really helped out with the garden this year, because as I really can’t bend over well. He definitely has a green thumb.
We may have mentioned it before, but the dirt in the “bottoms” (the area we live – named partly for the income level here but originally for the relation to the river") is AMAZING. Many people around here choose to do raised beds, but I tell ya, the dirt the earth gave us is totally awesome. The plot that has tomatoes and peppers is in that dirt. The builders used fill dirt in the other parts of our yard, but things still grow well there. Living in a previous flood plain has its benefits…wow, I still can’t believe how the plants have grown. We have the first little tomatoes forming and it makes us practically giddy to think of the amazing tomato sandwiches we’ll be eating soon!
This was around the 6th of June:
This morning:
Sage, Kiwi Vine, Tomatoes, Strawberry, Basil, Fig tree, Peppers etc
I think Harry dropped a pea seed in the grass!
All kinds of squash, Pumpkins, Watermelon, Cucumbers![]()
Figs
Lil beauties
We also have another section with Swiss chard, lettuce and peas.
We are going to have a lot of vegetables, I think. I think canning and freezing will be in order come the end of summer!
Kangaroo Zoo/Hogle Zoo
June 22nd, 2009 | posted by megan
Thursday we went to a place full of big bounce toys called Kangaroo Zoo, and Friday we went to the real zoo! Harry was really timid on the bounce toys!!! We both thought he would have a lot of fun, but he was mostly scared to go on any of them! Once I coaxed him onto the smallest bounce toy, he did have a lot of fun – until a boy started kicking and hitting him! I guess I didn’t really get too many smiley pictures, but he really was laughing a lot! Then on Friday we went to the zoo. My cool mom has a zoo pass! Harry always loves the zoo, and this day was no exception. He looked especially cute in the hat Grandma bought for him there. He was ready for a safari! I think on this trip he enjoyed the monkeys and tortoises the best. We saw Nicole there with her mom and her two kids which was a great surprise!! It’s great to have “old” friends that are still some of your best friends.
Discovery Gateway
June 17th, 2009 | posted by meganWe went to the new Discovery Gateway while we were in Utah! It used to be the children’s museum, and it had a lot of the same things, but newer and nicer. For those of you that know the old children’s museum building, did you know that it had a swimming pool in the back? My mom used to take lessons there. Of course when the children’s museum was there they had emptied the pool, but once when we were there they let us have a peek in back – it was behind the entrance desk!
Harry LOVED the helicopter. It is an old life flight helicopter. He also spent a lot of time with the balls that you could put into vacuum tubes. Actually, he could have done that the whole time he liked it so much. He was so tuckered out by the end of the day! In total we checked out the balls and tubes, the farmland, the splash pools, the helicopter, the technology section, AND then we went to Jason’s Deli after it all! The food was so mouthwatering. It was such a joy to see him play and have so much fun and to be there with mom!!
Elders Quorum Paintball - May 30, 2009

June 6th, 2009 | posted by meganThis morning we checked out the Summer Reading Club opening party at the main library! WAY FUN! Harry had such a great time. We were going to go to the arts festival after a short visit to the party, but he was having so much fun we just bagged the arts festival.
First there was storytime with stories about monkeys. Loved it!
There was a DJ playing Reggae style music in the main lobby of the library and Harry was totally dancing to it. I so wish I had a video camera, but I just had the big camera, so this is the best I got. He would wave his arms, bounce, and even turn around! He did it for quite a while, which means he was pretty entertained! Everyone would stop and smile – they just thought it was so cute. Agreed. Wish I would have snapped a pic of the DJ – he had dreads that were down to his knees! There was also someone playing with those juggling sticks which is always fun to watch.
Then we headed to the outside activities.
Harry loved the fountain! This boy absolutely loves water if he doesn’t have to be emerged in it! One guy that was there offered him a penny to throw in and he was being so shy and wouldn’t throw it in! Usually that is something he would totally dig.
“Come on Harry!” I think I say this a lot.
He went bowling a few times, AND you got a sticker after each turn. Such a good boy, he always wanted to help set up the pins afterward.
Okay, this is funny. It’s also connected to an event at COSI, but I couldn’t find the pictures right off. Do you see Clifford the Dog about to enter the library? Ya, that’s how far away he was and this was Harry’s reaction:
SO SCARED!!!! Curious George was there too, and he didn’t want one bit of it! He is totally terrified of large moving stuffed animals. Kinda don’t blame him. You can imagine what it was like when the animals got any closer! It’s so sad, but also really funny. You will die of laughter when you see how scared he was of the chicken at COSI. (Post to come soon)
We had a little lunch in the shade (with an extra treat of a free blueberry bagel from Panera – yes, they were giving away food in library. Awesome.) Oh we also got a FREE brand new book when we walked in. Not everyone got one, and I don’t know why we did, but I suspect because Harry is so darn cute.
There was also sidewalk chalk!
That’s all!
